This course will cover the federally mandated rules related to discharging a patient against their will from the dialysis facility. The steps involved in such discharge will be outlined. The role of the dialysis facility, medical director, ESRD Network and CMS in the process will be included in discussion. Emphasis will be placed on how to prevent involuntary discharges from occurring by addressing problems early and teaching staff techniques of communication and de-escalation.
