In 2016, CMS mandated that all dialysis facilities regularly screen patients for depression and pain, with a goal of integrating broad indicators of patient well-being into traditional patient care. With nearly 1/3 of dialysis patients experiencing symptoms of depression, what can dialysis facilities realistically be expected to do? Can screening really be expected to reduce missed treatments or improve quality of life? This session will discuss these QIP metrics, explore tools for screening and examine opportunities to act on positive screening tests.
